This modular workshop is designed as a crash course on virtual reality technologies. Module 1 explores the strategic integration of educational technology using the SAMR model and an introduction to the current landscape of virtual reality hardware. Module 2 introduces the integration of 360-degree pictures and videos using inexpensive virtual reality headsets. Module 3 focuses on fully immersive virtual experiences using the high-end HTC Vive. Workshop sessions conclude with a guided discussion unpacking how virtual reality can be thoughtfully integrated into existing curricula to support specific learning goals along with strategic planning on what technologies would be needed to achieve these defined goals.
Virtual reality (VR) provides educators exciting new opportunities to present material in an immersive fashion. This session will explore cutting-edge virtual reality technologies and how they can be applied in different school contexts. Participants will have the opportunity to experience virtual content in both inexpensive headsets, along with fully-immersive environments using high-end consumer VR headsets.
Workshops can be designed to offer an overarching introduction to VR or tailored specifically for educators of social studies, science, or English Language Arts.
This offering can be provided as a 1- or 2-day workshop.
